Mary Parkman Peabody, the eldest of five children of Henry Parkman and Mary Frances (Parker) Parkman, was born on July 24, 1891, in Beverly, Massachusetts. She embarked on a trip around the world in 1912, traveling to India, Burma, Ceylon, China, Japan, and the Philippines. In 1916, she married Malcolm Peabody, son of Fannie and Endicott Peabody, the founder of Groton School.
